A well-founded and professional quality of training and accompanying practical experience has been of primary concern to the BTD in the development of standards of recognition.

Additionally, the BTD has been screening the criteria of other educational establishments in the creative and therapeutic fields in order to assure comparable standards. The standards committee is regularly updating the standards, taking into special consideration the future orientation towards the European Standards and the recognition of Dance Therapy
within the guidelines of the EU legislation.

Admission to membership is subject to fulfilling the standards which are subdivided into recognition as:

• Dance therapist
• Trainer
• Teaching Therapist
• Supervisor
• Dance Therapy Training Institute
